The Finnish Paperworkers' Union has sent a new strike notice to UPM Paper Plants, stating that the strike at UPM's Finnish plants will be extended by two weeks until February 5, 2022, unless new agreements are reached by then. The Paperworkers' Union strike at the Finnish plants of UPM Pulp, UPM Biofuels, UPM Communication Papers, UPM Specialty Papers and UPM Raflatac began on January 1, 2022.
The strike started with the negotiations of the new workers contracts as UPM offered the workers the same wage as in 2021. The Finnish paper workers are not alone: Strike announcements were also made by the technology, mining and metal industry unions, affecting 200 companies with around 50,000 employees. It is about higher wages because of the rising cost of living due to the pandemic.
