GEORGIA - Port workers strike

Workers at the company Batumi International Container Terminal at the port of Batumi in Georgia went on strike over poor wages and working conditions. The port of Batumi is an important transport hub in the Black Sea basin. The work is hard and the pay is low, workers say. On average, a port worker earns 1200 GEL which is about 344 euros. They justifiably demand better wages and payment for overtime. As a result of the protest, the workers were promised a 20% wage increase.
