SUDAN – Rebellion against rising prices and government

Since about one week protests and rebellion arose against the price rises, bread prices for example got three times higher. Since beginning of the protests between 8-30 people got killed in the protests. After the funeral of two in killed students, Tariq Ali and Mohamed Ahmed Abdeljalil, angry protests arose even more decisively on Friday night. The government declared the state of emergency to break the protests, schools and universities have been shut down for an indefinite period, as well as the market and hundreds of people have been arrested.

In Rabak, the demonstrators burned the local office of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), in Wad Nuba, the crowds blocked the streets to the centre of Omdurman. This protests all over the country are among the biggest and wide-spread in Sudan since the huge protests against the cuts to state subsidies in 2013. In the protests the people also demand „The people want to fall of the regime“ and „Freedom! Freedom!“.

Government spokesman Bushara Jumaa said in a statement on Friday: „Peaceful demonstrations were derailed and transformed by infiltrators into subversive activity targeting public institutions and property, burning, destroying and burning some police headquarters“. Government tries with this to split the demonstrations in „good and peaceful“ and „violent“ protests. Ruling classes everywhere use this method against justified rebellion of the people. That the plans of the ruling bureaucratic class doesn‘t work, is shown through the broad participation and solidarity: doctors have begun a strike in connection to the protests and the Sudanese diaspora supports the struggle with protest actions in other countries, like there was one in front of the embassy in Washington.

Also in universities there were protests and meetings on the struggle and their demands:

Sudan, a former British colony, is now divided in Sudan and the autonomous South-Sudan, which was build through a referendum in 2011, a process mainly in interest of US-Imperialism. The so called „peace process“ from 2005 was in interest of the imperialist powers: „War is the continuation, by forcible means, of the politics pursued by the ruling classes of the belligerent Powers long before the outbreak of war. Peace is a continuation of the very same politics, with a registration of the changes brought about in the relation of forces of the antagonists as a result of military operations“. (V. Lenin, „On war and peace“, Peking 1960)

Sudan has huge oil resources, which are now mainly exploited by Chinese imperialists and US-Imperialists. The „peace“ which is existing now is an imperialist peace on the shoulders of the peoples masses, deepening exploitation and suppression. The struggle against the aggravating of contradictions, the aggravating of exploitation is getting more intense. The peoples masses don‘t stop struggling though police and military is killing the protesters and „state of emergency“ is called out. It cannot be peace for the people, as long as imperialism is exploiting and oppressing the people.
