In Slovakia, tens of thousands of people have marched the streets since the murder of the investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova. The protests have already pressured the prime minister to resign last month.
Now, on April 5th, again 45.000-50.000 protesters marched against corruption and the government in Bratislava and other cities. This is one of the biggest protest waves in the last decades. They demanded an investigation of Kuciak's murder, in which nobody has been charged yet. They also demanded the resignation of the police chief Tibor Gaspar, and for the law to be changed to prevent the interior minister from naming his successor.
One protester told in an interview: “The new government hasn’t done anything to convince me it will be different than the old government!”. And his position is justified. In the last few years, there have been a lot of big protest waves in the Balkan countries especially against government and corruption, making the situation of the people worse and worse, selling them and their land to „foreign investors“ - the imperialists.
But the imperialists and their lackeys cannot be kicked out of an oppressed country simply by voting for new representatives of the same interests. Only the people‘s struggle against imperialism, lead by a Communist Party, can successfully operate a New-Democratic Revolution, solving this problem.
