Usually there are a lot of anti-governmental protests in Guinea, but at the moment the teachers strike. They managed to mobilize pupils, their parents and of course the teachers. Schools are now already closed for one month and the teachers unions announced to go on with their strike for another month. Before there have been several teachers strikes which were only stopped because the government offered to increase their salaries for 40%. That did not happen so far.
In February 2017 six people died at a teachers strike. The masses responded to this with the attack on a police station. Also now it came to violent clashes and pupils built barricades on the streets.
