INDIA - Call "Stand with Varavara Rao"

The "Convenors Committee" from India recently published a call "Stand with Varavara Rao" where they demand the immediate release from the imprisoned Comrade and Literate Varavara Rao, and call for solidarity.

Friends & Comrades,

The deliberate and vindictive moves by the Fascist state in Bhima-Koregaon Trial is the parts of cold-blooded blue print to eliminate the vanguard dissidents who dared to dissent.

With a fresh non-bailable warrant served to Varavara Rao, the Peopleʹs Poet and the oldest prisoner of Bhima-Koregaon trial, it is clear once again that the Fascist state is desperate to confine him back in the prison, to keep him there as long as they decide, which is having a high probability to push the ailing poet to death bed. This would be the same ploy implied in the case of Stan Swamy.

Meanwhile Gautam Navlakha, nearly 70 and one of the oldest of the Bhima-Koregaon arrestees, was shifted to the ʹAnda Circleʹ (high security) from the barracks on October 12, 2021. Gautam writes (to his partner Sabha Hussain), ʹ...confinement in Anda Circle means denial of fresh air/oxygen as there is not a single tree or plant in the open space of the Circle. And we are forbidden to step outside of the Anda Circle…. In other words, we spend 16 hours out of 24 cooped inside our cell and the 8 hours we are let out we are confined to a corridor 71/2ʹ x 72ʹ for our daily walk on cemented floor surrounded by high walls all around.ʹ

Proper care of senior prisoners like Shoma Sen or Sudha Bhardwaj has been denied repeatedly, other prisoners are not in a better condition as well.

We lost Stan Swamy, should we let it happen once more, more and more? We appeal to all to build up a wall of resistance, to speak out loudly on this issue at all public forum and within everybodyʹs own space.

Share this appeal and the poster as much as you could. Stand firmly with Varavara Rao! Stand firmly with all 15 arrestees in Bhima-Koregaon case.

Yours-in-struggle,

Release the Poet Convenors Committee
