McDonald's employees in restaurants in Chicago, Durham, North Carolina, Kansas City and St Louis, Missouri, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Orlando, Florida and San Francisco have planned a walkout on September the 18th against sexual harassment in the workplace. Some of the initiators are women that filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission earlier this year, alleging pervasive harassment at McDonald's restaurants. Workers in this branch rely heavily on tips, because a lot of them work for a very low wage. And statistics from 2014 have shown that 90% of women and 70% of men in gastronomy have been sexually harassed.
The organizers said that it is the first strike against sexual harassment that‘s going on in multiple US states at the same time. McDonald's has tens of thousands of workers in the US, and some of them already have experience in protesting their exploiters: in the last 5 years, thousands protested for a 15 Dollar wage.
To the opposite of the "me too campaign" this is an expression of the women of the working class! It is right to rebel!
