INDIA – Comrade Azad released from prison

As several Indian newspapers reported, the former politburo member of the Communist Party of India (maoist) has been released from prison after eight years. He was arrested by the old Indian state in 2009 an was charged with numerous accusations. Amongst these where murder and sabotage, but actually he was a political prisoner. The Comrade, whose birth name is Kobad Gandhy, is an important leader of the revolutionary Movement and the people’s war in India. He played a major role in the unification of the maoist organizations, the Communist Party of India Marxist-Leninist People’s War and the Maoist Communist Center of India in 2004. In 2007 he was elected into the politburo of the new CPI(maoist) and went to Delhi to form a party organization in the capital of the old Indian state. Where he eventually was arrested and imprisoned. Even after his imprisonment he continued to struggle! In order to silence him and to isolate him from his fellow prisoners and comrades he was often transferred to several other prisons. He choose to fight this method and went into hunger strike. Comrade Azad is a great inspiration for the communists and revolutionaries in the world, for every revolutionary it is to be welcomed that he now is out of prison. Although it is clear that he will be closely watched by the repressive forces of the openly fascist Indian state, it is to be expected that he will play some role in the revolutionary movement.
