Graffiti has been documented near a factory in northeast China reading, “Long live Chairman Mao! Long live Chairman Gonzalo!” The slogans are a testament to the growing resurgence of groups in China who uphold Maoism against the revisionist party that claims the title ‘Communist Party of China’ (CPC). This ‘CPC’ currently rules the country but shares no ideological or political continuity with the CPC of Chairman Mao Zedong, which founded and led the country through socialist development until the coup of 1976, when capitalism was restored.
The graffiti was documented in the month of the centennial of the CPC, which was founded on July 1, 1921. In addition to honoring Chairman Mao, the graffiti salutes Chairman Gonzalo, the leader of the Communist Party of Peru. Chairman Gonzalo synthesized Maoism as the third and higher stage of proletarian ideology and has been imprisoned since 1992.
The monopoly media has noted that many in China, particularly the youth, are studying Chairman Mao’s teachings to analyze today’s social-imperialist Chinese government. The New York Times released a story last week which highlights the youth’s appreciation for Mao’s theories and practice, as well as their application of his ideas to their current reality.
One Chinese youth who spoke with the Times asked, “Didn’t the proletariat win the revolution? But why are the masters of the country now at the bottom while the targets of the proletarian dictatorship are on top? What has gone wrong?”
Today’s Chinese society is social-imperialist and social-fascist, the “social” referring to the fact that the Chinese ruling class falsely claims that the country is socialist. China was a socialist society up until 1976, when the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (GPCR) ended. The GPCR was launched in 1966, and was ended shortly after the death of Mao Zedong as capitalists inside the CPC staged a coup, restoring capitalism in the country. The GPCR was the largest mobilization of people in human history, and was led by Mao in order to further transform Chinese society in every sphere—socially, politically, economically, and culturally—in its advance towards Communism.
As young people in China today are arming themselves with the teachings of Chairman Mao, other signs point to further organization of Maoists in China. In a recent joint international declaration to celebrate the Day of Heroism, a proletarian holiday in honor of Peruvian prisoners who fought and died in a genocidal attack by the Old Peruvian State, the signatures included “Communist Group (Maoist), China.”
The growing activity of Maoists in China should be saluted by revolutionaries all over the world. Since capitalist restoration, the social-fascist Chinese government has brutally repressed all Communist organizing. The actions and organizing of Chinese Maoists in these difficult conditions demonstrate their bravery and should be an inspiration to raise high the banner of Maoism and fight for revolution.
