After weeks of intense mass demonstrations against Governor Ricardo Rosello, colloquially nicknamed "Ricky," the popular masses forced the resignation of the administrator of this colony dominated by U.S. imperialism. The social conflict that escalated until the resignation of the lacayuno governor was generated after their conversations were filtered in the app "Telegram" where they refer to the people with sexist, patriarchal, racist and homophobic comments, also mocking the victims of Hurricane Maria that hit the island in September 2017, leaving thousands of victims.
Hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans have demonstrated in the last weeks. It has been the largest protest movement on the island since Puerto Ricans demonstrated against US Navy military training on the island of Vieques more than 15 years ago.
