Up to 45 million people, in about 380 cities, followed the call for a general strike on June 14. Workers, the youth and broad sections of the popular movement took part, in some cases even militant! The strike was directed against Bolsonaro's planned reforms in the pension system, as well as cuts in education. Partly the public traffic stood still, some schools remained closed and access to refineries and bus stations was blocked. Thousands of people took part in demonstrations in the larger cities, notably in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Clashes between demonstrator and police happened, in which police brutally attacked, with rubber bullets and tear gas.
