BRAZIL - Mass student's protests

On the 8th and 9th of May massive protests erupted nationwide in Brazil. The reason for this protests where big cuts in education by the Bolsonaro regime. A 30% cut in the education budget, the elimination of postgraduate scholarships and the banning of classes that discuss popular movements and the rights of the peoples, where the main reasons that fired the protests.

Protests took place in Sao Paulo, Río de Janeiro, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Natal, among other states. In one instance the protesters took the protest to Bolsonaro, who was visiting a military academy. They also blocked important streets and stopped the city's activity by that. Assemblies were organized by students and professors in their respective universities. They concluded that students and professors have to unite in this struggle, but that they have to go further than that. They came to the conclusion, that the people have to unite not just in the education sector, but in all the sectors suffering under the attacks of the Brazilian state!

Professors congregated on a general assembly to discuss the situation and mobilize against the attacks on the education system. By doing this they reinforced the need for a general strike. The general strike, which is set to happen on the 15th of May, will unite all the Brazilian masses in their struggle against the advancing repression of the Brazilian state. The mass-protests in the education system have managed to mobilize and prepare thousands of masses to take part in the upcoming strike. The combative character of the protests shows that the Brazilian people are determined to fight back the planned repression.
